The Evolved

The Evolved is a story of two high school students, James and Alice, and how their lives are effected when they suddenly receive strange powers. James learns he has the ability to read minds and communicate telepathically. Alice has a strong form of telekinesis, able to move cars or break necks. Together they are Pair, the name given to them by the other Evolved they fought.

The Evolved have a set of rules when they fight, however only 1 rule is known to James and Alice: The fight is only over when one side is dead.

The Story So Far…
(SPOILER WARNING)

James met Alice and Christina when he passed out from the noise of the mental link between him and Alice. He shrugged it off, and continued about his life. Upon lunch time, he found that he could not only hear Alice’s thoughts, but communicate with her telepathically. Leaving the cafeteria, James felt the mind of another person with powers. They left to investigate.

They met Seizure, an Evolved who launched mental attacks against his opponents nervous system. James was easily able to block the mental attacks, and with Alice’s telekinesis, was able to beat up Seizure. After defeating him, his body turned to a fine sand like substance, and was carried off on a mysterious wind. A large portion of the school had witnessed the fight, and James and Alice were brought in to see the Principal.

After convincing the school that they shouldn’t be expelled for self defense, James and Alice headed to Alice’s house to escape the all the chaos. When they arrive, Alice’s stepmother attacked James. Defending him, Alice used her powers against her mother, and then fell into a comatose-like state. James carried her off to his house, to let her rest. Upon waking up, Alice was informed that she could stay with James’ family, and the two became roommates. Literally, they shared James’ room and bed.

The next day at school, with the whole student population afraid of James and Alice, they tried their best to fit in. James was challenged to a fight by a group of football players, which he accepted. After school they found themselves facing their second Evolved, Burn. Master of fire, James and Alice quickly dealt with him, killing him in front of his own brother.

A day later, the Police were investigating the scene of what was thought to be a runaway/kidnapping case. Officer Harper, someone from James’ mysterious past, interrogated Alice and James. James confessed to the murder of Burn, and left before Harper could ask anymore questions. Harper arrived at dinner to arrest James and Alice under the Police Chief’s orders, and took them downtown. Before anything could happen, the Police Chief took them to the roof and introduced himself as Compressor. An Evolved.

The fight near cost Alice her life, but she was saved with help from Harper. James agreed to tell him everything, and he joined their side, as he believed them that it was all in self-defense. James then stumbles across a website dedicated to him and Alice, a fan site run by the computer club at his school. He joins the site under the username Pair, and begins to correct their information on what actually happened. This drew the attention of PhilsWorth, the admin for the site, and he got everyone online in a chatroom with James.

With the school on their side, James and Alice returned to class to find almost all of the student body was cheering for them. Unused to all the attention, James and Alice tried to make it through the day in one piece. At lunch, another Evolved showed up. Screech came from the private school downtown, and she only came to fight Pair because she thought they were weak. When she discovered they were much stronger than her, she asked to be killed to save her from fighting. Alice did so, and in disgust from the cheering of the fans, they left.

Later that night, James collapsed from using his powers too much, and he was rushed to the hospital. The doctor put him on a medicine to relieve pressure in his brain, but it turned out to be a Evolved power suppressing formula. James was unable to use his powers, so Alice was left to fight the doctor, Toss, on her own. She was able to get the students that came to visit James in the hospital to help her, and they were able to defeat him before anyone was seriously hurt.

Another week of fighting Evolved at school led Pair to fighting Tesla, who was able to produce electricity as a weapon. They defeated him quickly, however not before several students were hurt and the cafeteria was completely wrecked. The school decided that James and Alice were too dangerous if all these Evolved were going to be coming after them, and they were expelled. PhilsWorth and the student body saw them off, reminding them that even if they didn’t come to school, they were still fans.

In order to protect James’ family, he and Alice have decided to move out into the city. Trying to escape the Evolved that kept coming after them. It just happened that the apartment James found was in the same building as Officer Harper. Once the weekend arrives they move in, and so beings their independent life together, as a Pair. They head out for a quick lunch, where James identifies two Evolved girls entering the restaurant.
